On September 18th and 19th, 2025, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia hosted the “20th EIASM Interdisciplinary Conference on Intangibles, Sustainability, and Value Creation: Reporting, Management, and Governance”.

Dr. Christof Neunsinger, research assistant at the Chair of Accounting and Management Control (Prof. Dr. Thomas M. Fischer), successfully presented his research paper entitled “Discretionary Cybersecurity-Related Disclosures and Investors’ Assessment of a Firm’s Systematic Risk”. Among the around 80 research papers submitted to the conference, the study was honored with the “Best Junior Contribution to the Theory and Practice Award of Intangibles, IC and Sustainability” for its contribution to academic research and corporate practice.

In addition to the intensive discussions among the approximately 120 academic researchers, the conference program featured insightful keynote speeches, including a presentation delivered by Prof. Baruch Lev (Emeritus, New York University Stern School of Business) on avenues for further research in the field of intangibles. Moreover, with regard to current developments in sustainability reporting, the conference included presentations of the sustainability scientist Prof. Beatrice Crona (Science Director, Stockholm Resilience Centre), as well as the views of international standard-setting institutions, including the Chair of the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), Prof. Carol Adams (Emeritus), and a Board Member of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) of the IFRS Foundation, Prof. Richard Barker (Oxford University).

A guided tour of the museum followed by a festive dinner at Modena’s oldest vinegar factory (established in 1605) completed the comprehensive conference program.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the hosts, Prof. Laura Girella (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia) and Prof. Stefano Zambon (University of Ferrara), the organizing team of the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM), and all participants for the successful conference and the interdisciplinary exchange.
